Tour Shanghai & the Yangtze Delta

Journey through Eastern China’s vibrant markets, alluring parks, impeccable cuisine and more in this 1-of-a-kind getaway.

About Your Trip

Discover the best the Far East has to offer while traveling through 3 of China’s leading cities. Your trip starts in Wuxi with a glimpse at the crystal-clear waters of one of China’s largest freshwater lakes, Taihu. Visit Wuxi National Digital Film Industrial Park, the site of Wuxi Studio, a state-of-the-art filming and production facility for some of the biggest blockbuster movies in the world. Spend some time on Chong’an Temple Pedestrian Street, the most bustling commercial area in the city, where you can pick up traditional handicrafts and modern goods.

Begin your full-day exploration of Hangzhou on Day 3 with a traditional lunch of Dongpo pork — tender pork belly that’s been braised to perfection. Take a relaxing boat ride on West Lake and explore its temples, parks and other landmarks. At Santan Yinyue (Three Pools Mirroring the Moon Island), see the lake’s famous pear-shaped pagodas arranged in a triangle just off shore, and continue to Huagang Guanyu (Fish Viewing at Flower Pond) to watch and feed the thousands of red carp and wander the peony garden. The last stop in Hangzhou is the Hefang Street shopping area, featuring old-fashioned treats and ancient Chinese handicrafts.

Spend the next day in one of the world’s most populous cities, Shanghai. Visit the Shanghai 3D Magic Fun House and snap whimsical photos of the mind-bending optical illusions and interactive murals. Take your souvenir hunt to Nanjing Road, one of the world’s busiest shopping streets. Your busy day in Shanghai ends with a leisurely evening walking tour along the Huangpu River, departing from the city’s popular waterfront boardwalk, The Bund.

What we love:
• West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011.
• The Santan Yinyue (Three Pools Mirroring the Moon Island) is a revered symbol of Hangzhou — its famous pagodas even appear on the 1-renminbi banknote.
• During your tour of Wuxi Studio, pose for a photograph in an ancient costume for a fun souvenir to take home.

Destination

Boasting abundant natural resources and gifted leaders throughout its lifetime, Wuxi is commonly known as one of the birthplaces for China’s national industry and commerce. Occupying one of the most scenic parts of Lake Taihu, the city also enjoys a beautiful landscape that, along with its wealthy heritage, makes it one of China’s top tourist spots.

Few places in China offer such legendary attractions as Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province. Ancient temples, striking cityscapes and gorgeous mountain vistas make this region one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the country. Since the 9th century, the city’s cherished landmark, West Lake, has been immortalized in variations of art thanks to its temple gardens, pagodas, islets and lush woodlands.

Shanghai has been known by many names since it was founded almost 1,300 years ago — the Pearl of the Orient, Paris of the East, the City Upon the Sea. Today, it is one of the world’s most populous urban centers and a favorite travel destination among jetsetters from around the globe. Even though the modern city is home to the world’s 2nd-tallest tower, it also boasts impressive Art Deco buildings from its prolific growth in the 1920s and 1930s, plus plenty of historic architecture including Jing’an Temple.
